The University of Maryland MRSEC grants ended in September 2013 after 17 years of successful operation. This site remains as a history of the center, but will not be actively maintained.
Janice Reutt-Robey was a founding investigator in the University of Maryland MRSEC. Since the MRSEC's 1996 inception, she has led the development of the MRSEC's Shared Equipment Facilities (SEF) and increased access through the Materials Research Facilities Network (MRFN). In December 2009, Dr. Reutt-Robey assumed the position of MRSEC director. She now guides the Center's research programs and knowledge transfer to industry and other sectors.
Julie Callis has been with the MRSEC since 2000 and has over the years been primarily involved in overseeing its information technology, finance, and program management, while also remaining active in education outreach programming. In April 2013, Julie assumed the position of Assistant Director and has been focused on seeing the MRSEC through the completion of its 17-year run, including final grant reporting and financial transitions, as well as on the development of new multi-investigator, interdisciplinary grant proposals. Julie has a Master's degree of International Management (M.I.M.) from UMUC, specializing in International Enterprise Management. Julie is also an alumna of the University of Maryland, College Park, with a B.S. in International Business from the Robert H. Smith School of Business and a B.A. in German Language and Literature from the College of Arts and Humanities at UMD.
Ellen Williams established the University of Maryland MRSEC in 1996. Since that time, the MRSEC has been renewed twice under her leadership in 2000 and 2005. As MRSEC Director, she has led the success of the Center’s research programs and knowledge transfer to industry and other sectors.

Donna Hammer joined the UMD MRSEC in 1997 and instituted its successful service-based education outreach infrastructure and diversity initiatives, and developed its effective Center administrative management structure. In 2003, she received the Sibylle Sampson Award for her accomplishments. In April 2009, she received the Dean’s Award for outstanding professional contributions to the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and in December 2011, she received the George A. Snow Award from the Department of Physics for helping advance the representation of women in the field of physics.
